5 Things You Must Know About Colloidal Silver

A silver layer. Studies have shown that colloidal silver outperforms many mainstream methods used against harmful organisms.Colloidal silver has been used for centuries to promote good health and studies continue to also show that colloidal silver outperforms many mainstream methods used against harmful organisms. [1] With so many cases of antibiotic resistance, it’s no wonder why colloidal silver has become extremely popular in recent years. Consumers should know, however, that not all silver products are created equal. Here are 5 things you must know about colloidal silver.

1. Parts Per Million (PPM) is Mildly Important

When it comes to colloidal silver, don’t get caught up in how many parts per million — or PPM — a solution has. Although it’s not a mundane detail, what’s really important is the particle size. Smaller particles can move more easily throughout your body and they’re more bioavailable. Particle sizes less than .005 microns are ideal. Sometimes this is indicated on the label, sometimes not. One way to tell if silver particles are too large is by examining the color of the solution. A dark or murky-color usually indicates large silver particles and other impurities.

2. Silver Won’t Upset Beneficial Intestinal Organisms

A lot of people use silver as defense against harmful organisms. Unlike antibiotics which wipeout both the “bad” and the “good” organisms present in the intestinal tract, silver maintains a balance of intestinal microorganisms. Silver absorbs quickly in the upper GI tract, and little gets through to cause problems for the beneficial bacteria in the small intestine and colon.

3. Good Colloidal Silver Won’t Turn You Blue

Occasionally you may hear of an individual who develops argyria, a condition that develops when silver proteins cause a blueing of the skin. (Do a Google search for Paul Karason.) While this may happen when people use ultra low quality silver solutions, pure hydrosol colloidal silver without additives, proteins, or salts does not cause this condition. [2] This is why it’s imperative to obtain the purest solution available.

4. Purity Matters

Colloidal silver isn’t just a mixture of silver and water; it’s a solution where the silver particles are suspended in water and have an electrical charge. This type of solution requires ultra pure water. It also requires special equipment necessary to create and maintain a constant charge. Many colloidal silver home brew kits use salts or other compounds during the process to suspend the silver in the solution. Products like this do not offer the same effect as colloidal silver produced with high voltage technology.

5. Only Use the Best Colloidal Silver

Not all colloidal silver products are created alike. First and foremost, choose a product that’s been produced using high voltage alternating current technology. This production method requires specialized equipment and produces a silver solution of unparalleled quality and purity compared to low-tech low voltage methods. I personally use and recommend Silver Fuzion®. Do you take colloidal silver? Why, or why not? Please leave us your answer in the comment section to let us know your thoughts on this product!

Thanks Dr. Group for all you do. Always enjoy listening to you on the worldwide broadcast. I’m considering Silver Lungs, or Silver Gen. Which silver generator would you recommend?

  • Zirah B L Hearn

Thanks for the article and information. I have heard/read conflicting info out there about color, PPM, and what will and won’t turn you blue. I figure you’re probably as informed as anyone around, so I appreciate getting your input on these things.

  • Zirah B L Hearn

p.s. I plan on using this as a future post (with source and credit given, of course) on my health-related blog.

  • Thanks, to be honest, I’m not sure that I would recommend anything other than silver water produced with the HVAC method, it’s just much better.

  • Greg

I’m not familiar with the HVAC method!?

I’ve used colloidal silver for around 15 years for various problems, but never for daily use. Once every year or two I get a case of food poisoning – I take two tablespoons when the griping cramps and diarhea begin, and two tablespoons about an hour later, and follow it up with a third dose a couple hours later. By the third dose, the condition is gone. Every single case – Never failed yet.
There’s a number of other ailments it works for, including infected cuts and abcesses. I’ve made my own with pure distilled water and an old automatic ROBEY – Mark II with a dial 5 to 80 PPM. Boil the water and put in the probes and half hour to 45 minutes later you’ve got your concoction that lasts many months.
Not too sure if it works for systemic problems, since I’ve never spent enough time trying to use it for those. Would likely kill many bacterial infections if used in IV application, since the particles MUST be in the presence of the bacteria in order to kill it.
Lot more to say about it. Study.

  • Mark Hoppe

I use ASAP-10 Silver Solution. I feel that it is the best out there.

  • Mark Hoppe

Another thing is I use ASAP when something doesn’t feel right.

  • It’s produce with high voltage alternating current technology which requires more special equipment and care than the low voltage home brew methods. The result is a more stable solution with smaller silver particles that remain in suspension (ie, you won’t have a bunch of silver sediment at the bottom of your solution if let to sit for a while).

About 5 years ago the vet diagnosed my dog (67 pounds) with erlichiosis. She would eat nothing and drank only water. When we got back from the vet she threw up the meds the vet and his assistant had shoved down her throat. My neighbor, a former teamster could not get her jaw open to get more in.

I started adding silver to her water–Silver Biotics 10ppm from American Biotech–about 2 Tbsp in a small amount of water as I didn’t know if it would sink or mix in. I probably added 8-10 Tbsp over a 24 hour period. At the end of that time she was out chasing bunnies and looking for treats.

The only mistake was returning the meds to the vet so they could be given to someone who couldn’t afford them as the vet acted as if I were insane.

I started using colloidal silver about a year and a half ago when I started having bouts of diverticulosis (or -itis?). The doctor wanted me to visit every time I had symptoms and was prescribing Cipro. Since it appears that diverticulosis is going to be a life-long festering pest, I decided I would take a chance on the silver so as to avoid the side effects of Cipro (which barely seems to work, anyway) and the regular cost of expensive doctor’s visits and pharmaceutical antibiotics. My last major bout was last March. I first used Sovereign Silver and it worked not only perfectly, it worked quickly! Now I make my own. Admittedly, by the good doctor’s article, it is not the best, since I bought a kit that uses batteries and encourages the use of a tiny amount of salt if I use distilled water, which I do. Nevertheless, I take it at the very first familiar pain of the diverticulosis, keep taking it twice a day for a day or two, and have never suffered a full-on bout ever since. I am totally sold on silver. Also, I used to get boils various places on my skin which may have been from a staph infection earlier in my life. After taking silver for my other problem, I noticed the boils had disappeared, too. Looks like even poorly-made silver works. Just be careful to not over-do it. Also, I’m not so sure it doesn’t still go after the good gut bacteria, so I think it’s prudent to take pro-biotics just in case.

I have been making my own CS for about two years and I disagree with the statement about the color of the water. While purity of the water used can make it darker if one uses distilled water of say no more than 1PPM you can still have color variations due to the polarity of the atoms. The color is due to refraction of the light spectrum caused by varying polarity. The polarity can be affected by solar activity in the Sun when one is making their CS. My point is if you are using pure water you will still get different tints of CS.

  • That’s interesting, I hadn’t heard that. Do you have or know of a site where we can get more information about that?

  • Sarabella

thanks Dr. group… Your products are exceeding my expectations 🙂

  • Thanks for the great feedback, I appreciate it

  • Have you made it yet?

Real colloidal silver with nanoparticles in the 10 to 14 nm range is yellow in color because of the Surface Plasmon Effect defined by MIES scatterin. If its clear, its not colloidal silver. Look it up. Also true colloidal silver is not light sensitive, so it doesn’t have to be in a brown glass bottle to disguise it. So much disinformation here seemingly for the purpose of selling an inferior product. The high voltage method does not produce higher quality either. In fact, all the serious research done by bona fide researchers was made with yellow colloidal silver made by the reduction of ionic silver with glucose, plant polyphenols, or sodium borohydride. There is no scientific research which shows that high voltage produces anything better.

Sorry, you folks don’t know what you’re talking about, AT ALL. Your clear solution is just that (a solution) the silver is dissolved as silver oxide which has a saturation point of about 20 ppm. Above that, your ionic silver oxide precipitates out of solution and into suspension as relatively large particles of silver oxide.

Under 20 ppm you have silver atoms that have lost an electron and are now positively charged free radical ions in solution. In this form there is some utility when used topically (not ingested.) It is, in fact, the exact form of silver implicated in Argyria. When consumed the ionic silver forms the compound silver chloride as a result of being neutralized by the presence of HCL (hydrochloric acid.)

This is a practically useless silver salt that will eventually lead to Argyria. It’s the same compound formed when someone uses sodium chloride (table salt) as an electrolyte in preparing ionic silver.

In order to make real nano particle “colloidal” silver, you want to reduce (to make whole again) the ionic silver oxide. It can be as simple as adding a few drops of light corn syrup (glucose/fructose) to your ionic silver and either waiting a day or so, or speed up the process by heating to around 180 degrees (1 quart – 4 minutes in the microwave.)

You will then have made real colloidal silver. It will no longer be in solution it will be a colloidal suspension. It should be a nice yellow (like baby shampoo) and be very clear. This is because of the Plasmon resonance. The nano particles absorb specific wavelengths from the light striking it. This gives the colloid the complementary color of the wavelength it absorbed

I could go on and on. You literally have everything wrong in your understanding of the process.

  • drewcifer7840

Using an electrolyte is a good idea as it speeds up the process. Using table salt (sodium chloride) is not a good idea. It makes silver chloride particles (very large, not very useful, may cause Argyria.)

You should consider using sodium carbonate as your electrolyte instead. It will make silver oxide (not chloride) and is 5x more soluble in water. Make sure your using distilled water.

Sodium carbonate is reduced sodium bicarbonate (baking soda.) You make it by baking your baking soda for about an hour at 350 degrees on a glass baking dish.

To make a 1 molar concentration of sodium carbonate mix 1 level tablespoon of your baked baking soda with enough distilled water to give you 2 ounces. You will only need about 1/2 ml. (10 drops) of this electrolyte for 1 liter of water.

Having added the electrolyte allows us much more precision in making our ionic silver. Ideally you should have a constant current regulator to control your current at a fixed level, say 5mA (milliamps).

Normally this much current without the electrolyte would not work it would be way too much current and you’d waste a lot of silver with the plate-out on your cathode. But the sodium carbonate will block such plate-out keeping your silver nicely in solution.

By starting your process at a known and stable current (5 mA in my example) you can apply Faraday’s law of electrolysis and know exactly how much silver is going into your water. The law states:

You will produce 1 mg of silver per minute at 15 mA (milliamps.) 1 mg in 1 liter is 1 ppm. 20 mg in 1 liter is 20 ppm. At 15 mA’s it would take exactly 20 minutes to make 1 liter of 20 ppm ionic silver. Using my 5 mA example it would take 3X as long or 1 hour.

If you do this you’ll make excellent and quantifiable ionic silver. If you then add a few drops of light corn syrup to your batch and microwave it for a few minutes. The ionic silver oxide will reduce to REAL nano particle colloidal silver and be yellow (like Johnson’s baby shampoo) and clear.

this will probably get remover quickly but oh well if u put some of this snake oil in a glass and the drop in a pinch of salt u will see it is only ionic silver not colloidal as it will turn cloudy. Look up silver colloidal great scientific info there

  • GHC Support

Ionic silver and true colloidal silver solutions vary from clear to a dark color. The darker the color, the higher the concentration of silver particles which block light trying to pass through the solution. But you need to be wary of dark solutions. If you’re not sure by the color, shake the product. A silver protein produces a foam that will last for several minutes after being shaken.

Ionic silver and true colloidal silver generally contain in the range of 3 to 20 ppm (parts per million). Silver proteins contain 30 ppm up to 20,000 ppm. Concentrations at this level are not considered safe.

Hello, I am considering ordering some CS to help my kitties who have apparently developed a mild-moderate case of Stomatitis. It’s an autoimmune disease with very few treatment options and even those are not always effective to alleviate a cat’s suffering. I would literally flap my arms and fly to the ends of the universe to help my cats. No helpless animal ought to suffer.

Could you recommend a therapeutic dosing strength for a 32 lb cat, a 28 lb cat, 22 lb and an 18 lb cat? Also, could you recommend a frequency for doses?

Thanks for this awesome info!! Going to order right away!!

  • Barry Robinson

What do you know, someone comes with some facts and this so called dr has no reply but will reply to everyone else? Why? Probably because he has a financial interest in the silver he recommends although there a many great ones out there. How about helping people instead of spreading more disinformation?!

  • Maria Montserrat Suasaa

Hi!My ferritin levels are low,im starting to take iron in a syrup form as tablets upset my stomach ,that is already not great!! Could I take the colloidal silver while taking iron!? Normal range for ferritin is 15-240,my level is 7. And if I can take it,how much of it in ml a day!?Many thanks

  • John Cole

Hello, some people such as Andy Cutler claim CS is a toxic heavy metal and those who use it are just poisoning themselves. They point to a few studies on pubmed with rats. How might one soundly refute those claims? Any studies to show the CS leaves they system without chelating? I know my personal experience with CS via nasal mist applicator is good but they reject that as subjective.

I have been using C.S. for 20 years and though I started out using an inferior method of mfg (battery( not using plug in) I have been using Silver gen for the last 10 years and I feel it is even more effective (and I am not blue, LOL) I NEVER add ANYTHING to my production process besides distilled water, and am so glad I found out about that early because one does NOT want a PPM that is high, but rather a micron size under .005. If one maintains a few simple things like outlined above, one does not need to worry about argyria or metal poisoning or any illness. If one uses a lot at once, be sure to repopulate with good gut flora to aid in proper diet and bowel function in the future. If one just takes a small amount such as a teaspoon a day, do not worry about it. I have used it internally and topically just for your info…and successfully on a dog.

  • robert ask.

take blackstrap molasses, it tastes very strong, but the Iron is naturally occurring (iron is 20% and both calcium and potassium are high.

  • aliosh

Everywhere I read says CS wipes out both good and bad gut bacteria, so best to use a probiotic with it. Where did you read it only affects harmful bacteria? How would it discern the two?
