99% of herbal colon cleansers contain one or more harmful ingredients. Watch as Dr. Group Discuss the Dangers of Herbal Colon Cleansers.
Common Ingredients in Herbal Colon Cleansers
Senna:
This herb works by stimulating and irritating the lining of the intestines in order to induce a bowel movement. This irritation can cause the intestines to become so stimulated, that the nerves will cause muscular movements inside the intestines, so it will purge itself of waste.
There are also many side effects associated with the use of Senna. These side effects include severe abdominal cramping, nausea, electrolyte imbalance and diarrhea. Not to mention that it can cause “Bowel Dependency” if used longer than seven consecutive days. In other words, if you use Senna for too long, it’s possible your intestines will become dependent on the herb, in order to have a Bowel Movement.
Cascara Sagrada:
This is a commonly used ingredient in herbal colon cleansers due to its aggressive laxative effect. In fact, Cascara Sagrada is so aggressive, that it’s known to cause severe and bloody diarrhea in people who use it excessively. Like Senna, you should never use Cascara Sagrada for longer than seven consecutive days, and NEVER without your doctor’s supervision.
Psyllium:
This is one of the most commonly used ingredients in Herbal Colon Cleansers. Psyllium works by absorbing water and swelling inside the colon. When used in small-doses, psyllium can be relatively harmless, however you must drink alot of water in order for the herb to pass safely through your system. Also, recent Psyllium Research indicates many people experience severe allergic reactions to this herb.
