The 5 Best Natural Alternatives to Fluoride

Natural Alternatives to Fluoride

Fluoride is a known endocrine disruptor and other evidence shows fluoride is even a neurotoxin. Unfortunately, it’s still used in many dental products to this day and the potential health problems are unavoidable. Fortunately, when it comes to oral health, there are several fluoride-free alternatives.

Natural Alternatives to Fluoride

Protecting your teeth and gums requires time, commitment, and the right tools. Brushing your teeth, flossing, and limiting sugar intake are all key. Although fluoride is often touted as a must it doesn’t hold a candle to natural alternatives. Here are five supplements to consider adding to your oral health regimen.

1. Neem

Neem is amazing. One study suggests a neem mouthwash could even outperform a traditional dental product when it comes to reducing plaque! [1] Other studies suggest it has almost miraculous properties when it comes to approaching gingivitis. [2] If you want to check it out, one easy way is to look for fluoride-free toothpaste with neem leaf extract.

2. Coconut oil

Coconut oil already has antibacterial properties and is much safer than the endocrine-disrupting triclosan found in many fluoridated toothpastes. You can even use coconut oil as toothpaste if you like! Research suggests it can actually slow the growth of some bacteria that can lead to tooth decay. [3] Another study suggests oil pulling–or oil swishing–with coconut oil can also lead to a significant decrease in overall plaque. [4]

3. Ozonated Olive Oil

Olive oil has long been hailed for its moisturizing benefits, and this type actually takes that one step further with a process called ozone injection. This process bubbles ozone into the liquid for quite a while before it even gets to you. Ozonated olive oil is just one way we can use dental ozone therapy. One study even suggests this therapy could be more effective than traditional dental methods, so why not try the best of both worlds with a product like O2-Zap® Ozonated Olive Oil paired with a fluoride-free toothpaste. [5]

4. Oregano Oil

Oregano oil is one of those items with a million uses, and promoting oral health is one of them. Oregano oil can be highly beneficial for dental issues and can be used to soothe toothaches, abscesses, and mouth sores. Because of its potency, though, always be sure that you dilute it with something like olive oil. You can even use it like a mouthwash, spitting it out after you’ve swished it around your mouth. For a highly-quality organic oregano oil, I recommend Oregatrex™, our oregano oil blend.

5. Myrrh

Used to combat bad breath, myrrh can be found in some fluoride-free toothpastes. One of the compounds in myrrh is actually toxic to all the things that can cause bad breath. And, like many of the supplements listed here, it could also help with gum health. Research shows it’s effective in fighting periodontal disease. [6] A high-quality product, like Fresh Mouth, not only contains myrrh, but also a blend of other ingredients to support a healthy mouth.

How Do You Protect Your Teeth and Gums?

With all the options out there, there’s absolutely no reason that you have to use fluoride anymore. Myrrh, coconut oil, and neem are just as effective, if not more, and present relatively little side effects. Fresh Mouth™ is one product that you can use that contains many different herbal extracts designed specifically for dental health. Other things you can do is to drink plenty of water, avoid high-carbohydrate beverages like soda and juice, and brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride-free toothpaste. In addition, be sure you are getting plenty of vitamin D, because this vitamin can be helpful for supporting teeth and gum health.

If you’re looking for more information about the dangers of fluoride, check out the documentary, Fluoride: Poison on Tap. It really explains the magnitude of the fluoride situation and I was even fortunate enough to be a part of it.

My favorite tooth paste/liquid combo is using ORA MD and Orajuvenate Peppermint. I also oil pull with O3 Ozone-Infused Oil Pulling Solution (with Coconut Oil) every day. I haven’t had a good health benefit plan for about 4 years so I can’t afford to go to the dentist. Ever since I started using these products 2 years ago my teeth are so clean and white that I can’t believe how well these products have works for me!!!

These fluoride-free alternatives are truly welcomed. We must be careful about our potential health problems. The facts revealed about the fluoridated toothpastes are the eye-opening fact. Appreciate the details provided herein!

I purchased ozonated olive oil but need to know how I now use it with my homemade toothpaste? Do I brush normally first, then use the olive oil and brush with it separately or mix with my toothpaste? Do I rinse my mouth out after using it or just leave it to be absorbed? This stuff is new to me and I’ve had dental issue my whole life so I’m looking for anything that will improve my overall mouth health. Thanks. I’ve googled uses for ozonated olive oil and there are many but no instructions on actually how to use it.

You forgot a VERY important part of oral hygiene! Flossing! Why clean the front and the backs of teeth but not between? This is where anaerobic bacteria hide out and make condominiums in your teeth and gums!

  • ColleenRobin

I still floss, but you’d be surprised what OIL PULLING does for your overall teeth cleanliness!! Try it. WHY don’t dentists tell us all natural methods of caring for our teeth instead of insisting we all NEEEEED Fluoride??? Seriously. my mom’s used dental approved fluoride toothpaste forever. Every time I take her to the dentist she has a cavity or two. At the dentist last time, I suggested that their way wasn’t working and that I would buy Neem for my mom. They said she should continue with the Fluoride toothpaste. :/

The Waterpic is superior to flossing in every possible way and it’s about time people moved into the 21st century with this.

Second, Xylitol is perhaps the best fluoride alternative, yet is nowhere in this list. Epic toothpaste uses Xylitol and I no longer get cavities like with fluoride.
