Sufferers of migraines headaches might see some relief in their future thanks to two types of oxygen therapy, according to a review of research from several separate studies.

Migraines & Oxygen Therapy

Many people are affected by migraine headaches or know people who are. Migraines are considered a neurological syndrome that, alongside the painful headaches, are often accompanied by vomiting, nausea and sensitivity to light.

Cluster headaches are less known. They tend to affect only one side of your head, and are discernible thanks to their piercing quality.

The Cochrane Collaboration, publishers of The Cochrane Library, evaluate medical research, and in this instance compared nine studies focusing on the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and normobaric oxygen therapy.

Benefits of Avocados

Avocados are native to Central and South America have been cultivated since approximately 8,000 B.C. By the mid-1800s, they had been introduced to Asia and Jamaica, but they did not arrive in the United States until the early 20th century. California and Florida produce most of the avocados grown in the USA with other commercial producers existing in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic.

Guacamole is a popular way to enjoy avocados and this delicious food contain other ingredients besides avocados that offer some surprising health benefits.

Elecampane Wildflowers and MRSA

Scientists are realizing that Mother Nature has answers to many of the dilemmas that we face. One such answer has arrived through a pair of Eurasian wildflowers (Elecampane and Pulsatilla vulgaris).

According to a study conducted by researchers at the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), extracts from the flowers are highly effective in killing the MRSA superbug.

The superbug, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that is the root cause for many infections in humans. MRSA can be very difficult to treat because it’s resistant to many antibiotics. MRSA is especially troublesome in hospitals, where, if the proper procedures are not carried out, staff may transfer bacteria from one patient to another.

MRSA has been a serious problem not only in hospitals, but in other institutions such as prisons and schools. Due to the continually rotating population in a prison, combined with regular poor health, staph cases have become more and more prevalent.

Milk & Vitamin D Defiency

Authors of a new study have concluded that males with a low level of Vitamin D, a fat-soluble vitamin, are more likely to suffer a heart attack.

There are a variety of clinical studies showing that the death rates attributed to cardiovascular diseases grow during winter months. Conversely, the opposite was found at lower altitudes. This background pattern was expressed in the author’s article, published in the June 9 edition of the journal, Archives of Internal Medicine.

In conjunction with a team from the Department of Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health, Edward Giovannucci, M.D., Sc.D., analyzed medical records and blood samples of 454 men, aged 40-75, all of whom have suffered from fatal heart diseases or had previously suffered non-fatal heart attacks.

Are There Drugs in Our Water Supply?

Are there drugs in our drinking water?

Did you know that when you ingest or are injected with prescription drugs, your body doesn’t necessarily use everything? Excess drugs are excreted as waste material.

That’s good news for your body since pharmaceuticals can be very hard on your system, it’s not good news for the ecosystem since these drug residues work their way into our waterways and water processing plants.

Things you need to know about municipal water

Tap water has been unsafe for a very long time. Tap water may contain toxic chemicals, some known carcinogens, added to make it “safe” for drinking. Three of the poisons that can be found in faucet water are chlorine, fluoride, and arsenic, a Category 1 carcinogen (cancer causing agent).

The newest acknowledgment of prescription drugs in waterways is one more toxin added to an already contaminated water supply and prescription medications are not easily filtered.

The drugs are not present in large quantities but they are a contaminant. This means you may be ingesting them continuously over a period of years and we don’t yet know what the long-term effects of such intake will be.

Studies are showing that the effects are already manifesting in fish (male fish producing female egg yolk proteins) and even earthworms and zooplankton. Antibiotics, for example, are less and less effective as treatments for ailments in humans, due to excessive prescribing practices. Bacteria have the ability to adapt to the antibiotics. Antibiotics in open water give bacteria more time to mutate.
