Mercury Undercover DVD
I wanted to take a moment to let everybody know about a documentary that was recently released and I am a part of. It’s called ‘Mercury Undercover‘.

Have you ever wondered how much mercury you encounter in your lifetime? This gripping documentary breaks down why mercury is toxic, what mercury poisoning does to your health and what we can do to protect ourselves and future generations.

I am very proud to be one of the contributors in this film. Here’s a short teaser clip featuring myself.

According to a study from 2010, Swiss scientists conducting research for the University Hospitals of Geneva and Lausanne have found strong evidence that children and young adults who suffer from inflammatory bowel disorders, such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, are at an increased risk of fracturing bones.

How Does IBD Affect Young Bones?

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic form of inflammation that can devastate the entire gastrointestinal tract. Not only does it cause severe pain and discomfort, in many cases it causes permanent damage to sensitive digestive tissue which prevents them from properly absorbing essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium.

Besides facing malabsorption of nutrients, growing bodies afflicted with severe gastrointestinal conditions like IBD often also suffer from generalized malnutrition due to an understandably reduced desire to eat. Like most of us, they tend to avoid things that cause them extreme pain.

To further complicate matters, many doctors eventually resort to prescribing their IBD patients drugs from a class of powerful anti-inflammatory steroids, known as glucocorticoids. These are known to have some serious and, in the case of these new Swiss findings, painful side effects.

As the human body ages, flexible tissue fiber known as elastin begins to break down from years of continuous physical stress. This gradual breakdown has a number of adverse effects on the overall health and appearance of the body. Externally, as skin loses its elastin, wrinkles begin to appear. Internally, similar but more serious changes such as arteriosclerosis or “arterial stiffness” also begin to occur.

As the skin depends on elastin to remain taut yet flexible, so do the walls of the vascular system that makes up the human circulatory system. Without the proper amount of healthy elastin present, the arteries stiffen, and become increasingly unable to cope with the internal pressure they are meant to handle. Over time, this leads to damage not only of the vascular system itself, but also to the organs to which it supplies.

Woman Smiling

A recently published study by researchers at the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico shows that dietary supplementation of calcium and other vitamins may significantly reduce the risk of women developing breast cancer. If the researchers are correct, this seemingly simple information could help save countless women from the potentially disfiguring and deadly disease.

By comparing the case histories of 268 women with documented malignant breast tumors with those of 457 healthy, unaffected controls, the research team was able to calculate a potential 30 percent reduction in cancer rates with proper supplementation.

According to a new study coming out of Canada, Vitamin d supplements have shown the ability to counter the negative effects associated with Crohn’s disease.

A team of researchers from McGill University Health Centre in Montreal suggest that if you suffer from Crohn’s Disease, having a deficiency in vitamin d can actually make it worse. To help with Crohn’s, it is suggested you get more sun or take a supplement to help fight off the deficiency.

Marc J. Servant, professor and collaborator on this project:

“This discovery is exciting, since it shows how an over-the-counter supplement such as Vitamin D could help people defend themselves against Crohn’s disease. We have identified a new treatment avenue for people with Crohn’s disease or other inflammatory bowel diseases.”
