Came across this post, as I am currently shopping for a new mattress. It is almost scary the things you never realized or considered…. I came across a natural memory foam mattress and am thinking I will be switching to this as I really enjoy the comfort of memory foam… I can’t wait to sleep on a non-toxic surface!

Great Job! I would like to share that even bedsheets may cause you suffer from high allergies such as Allergic Dermatitis. One can’t think that a disease like Allergic Dermatitis be caused by bedsheets. one must be aware of what kind of bedsheets must be used to avoid allergies.

I agree very good post. There’s so much information out there. Mattresses are a tough purchase. Natural, Organic, Eco so much too choose from. Very interesting stuff.

Ugly looking things bed bugs…worse than cockroaches. After reading this I am so sorry we spent thousands of dollars last year on a synthetic mattress. Thinking we were doing the right thing for our posture we didn’t take other health aspects into account .

Thank you for the useful information! Even though don’t have any allergies, I don’t like the idea of dust mites in my bed.. I’ve bought organic wool blanket… and it feels so different from the synthetic one I had before… it keeps me warm, but not sweaty and not heavy. I may also consider buying a mattress zip protector soon.

Guy, be careful with sprung matress as they can cause cancer.

Believe it or not wool is not best. Here’s why.

Animal fibers need to be washed annually unlike. Imaging cutting off you hair and all you friend’s hair, putting it in a duvet cover and sleeping on it. Unless they’re chemically treated to ward off the little critters you’d need to wash it every once in a while . Most mattress do NOT make their wool toppers washable. Animals fibers should NOT be in a mattress unless their removable and washable.

very informative and thorough. thanks for the tips and just a little fact for the day. 25% of all pesticides used in the world are used in non-organic cotton farming. pretty staggering stat.
