If you are not home during the day, close all windows, curtains and blinds to keep your house cool as long as possible. If you are at home during the day and do not want to cover all windows, cover when necessary. Remember that south-facing windows receive sun. It is the windows facing the sun gets in the mornings and west to get hotter and higher the sun in the afternoon and evening. dark shades, Roman shades, blinds and even penny blind can be very effective. The roller blinds can block up to 80% of solar heat If the air is cold enough at night, windows open to circulate the air as possible.

You can make changes to the exterior also a better planet. Unfortunately, any changes you make in your home, there are others who still garbage. Turn your lights off on a timer, which ensures that you not leave your lights on all night and waste energy.Check your attic and basement insulation, especially outdoors. By doing this you can reduce wasted energy (and hence costs) by 20%. Planting trees around your house to protect it from sun and wind. Also, keep your air compressor in a shady location to avoid having to work so hard when it is running.

Those are some great tips! I was pretty excited to get my rain-barrels installed for watering my landscaping. Another thing you can do is build a deeper runoff area and seed it with marsh type plants. Works great in the winter rains!

Water Conservation is the most important issues of our time. There is a way to take your shower water and re-use it flush your toilet. Go to the website www.waterlegacy.com to see greywater recycling in action. I love to see information like this. If everyone in this country would take one or two of these steps think of the difference we can make!

I have been growing our own vegetables for some years now. There are many advantages to this especially if you have children. Mine love it when I grow veges like peas as they can pick them fresh and eat them straight away. These often don't make it to the pot as they are eaten too quickly. As a family of six we have not had to buy potatoes for a year, we planted two sacks around the edge of a farmers crop paddock and were able to do it the second year too. This has saved us lots. Also pumpkins are another one that we haven't had to buy, with the surplus I cut them up into family size meals, place them in a old bread bag and freeze for later.
Not only has growing the garden saved us lots, it is a place that can be very therapeutic.
