For the past six weeks we’ve had a contest going on our Facebook page. The prizes — shopping sprees to GlobalHealingCenter.com for $250, $100, and $50. Criteria to enter — tell us in 100 words or more what has inspired you to take control of your health. The response was nothing short of overwhelming and we received some incredibly touching stories and motives for why so many have actively chosen to take the steps necessary to maintain a healthy diet and live a healthy life. It was tough but we narrowed it down to three…
- “My inspiration for health comes from being Mom to 5 and Nana to 10. I have the responsibility to be an example to these amazing human beings. While other grandmas might bake gooey deserts and always have an overflowing cookie jar, I find excitement in the creativity of making birthday cakes from fresh watermelon and always having frozen bananas on a stick waiting for hungry little ones. Our vacations are spent hiking and biking and camping together. The grandkids each have their own special dishes made from whole organic food, and they are so excited if we are making “their recipe”. I find such joy watching them come over and immediately run to the garden to pick fresh strawberries, blueberries, and tomatoes. They have planted so many sunflowers we are known as the “Sunflower House”. A healthy lifestyle is the best legacy I can leave to future generations.”
That’s excellent! You didn’t just describe an investment into the health of your grandchildren, but one that impacts their core being. These are memories they’ll recall for the rest of their lives. Here’s to continued inspiration!
- “My son was diagnosed with ADD when h was 5 years old he was on and off of all kind of meds that made his tummy hurt, gave him headaches, made him loose a lot of Weight and made him sleep a lot. Because of my son’s condition I started to research the foods we eat and what was in them. I started to understand that their are toxins, dyes, gluten and wheat, pesticides in the foods we eat and that they can effect the way we feel. So for the last year we have been eating an organic diet. We have lost weight and are now a healthy body weight we have more energy and have no signs of Allergies are Sinus problems. We did this for our whole family. As for my son with ADD we are in the process of getting gluten, wheat and dairy out of his diet. We are also seeing neuropathy Doctor which is helping us with our diets. This is going to change us for the good an make us feel better.”
It sounds like your family has taken on these challenges like champions! I applaud you for taking a proactive lead and doing what’s best for your family and your children, BRAVO!
- “My Italian grandfather raised three boys on his own during the 1950’s after his wife, my Grandmother, was paralyzed and eventually died due to a botched surgery to remove a goiter. My Grandfather, an immigrant, spent much of his time in the library after the incident, researching, looking out of the box for solutions to remedy the situation. This eventually led him to become the first person to sue a medical doctor for malpractice in the United States.”
“Being a single father, and having to be strong for his growing sons, my Grandfather knew the importance of eating well. Throughout my father’s childhood, evening meals consisted of a balanced offering, Mediterranean-style, with a dessert of fruit being ‘as sweet as it gets.’ Knowing just how insidious living with an illness can be, my Grandfather often reminded my father and his brothers to look after themselves. In addition to showing them how to eat well, he’d say: ‘If you don’t have your health, what do you have?'”
“While the message of health being of utmost importance was also reiterated to me time and time again during my childhood, it was only until I became an adult and was struggling with an autoimmune disease that this message truly hit home. After eight years of treatment with allopathic medication and mediocre results, I decided to heed my Grandfather’s wisdom and take my health into my own hands.”
“In my approach to healing, I decided to not focus on just my symptoms (as most allopathic practitioners I visited prescribed), but to take a more integrated approach to healing by caring for my entire system. To do this, I ate balanced foods in as close to their natural form as I could find; I did self work, training in The Work of Byron Katie (to clear out any emotional baggage in my life); I bought a magnetic resonance mat to naturally curb inflammation in my body; and, eventually, I also went gluten/lactose free. With time, I also started supplementing, did a number of liver and gallbladder flushes, read countless health books and exercised more.”
“While, decades ago, my Grandfather could not save my Grandmother’s life, he left an indelible print in the world of health: he sought out new ways for justice on the health frontier, and also instilled wisdom about the importance of eating well to his children and grandchildren. By listening to my body and following my elder’s wisdom, I have been given a blessing – a return to health. Thanks to my Grandfather, I had the courage to look beyond traditional health solutions. By listening to my entire body and learning how to care for it well, I have been able to live for the past two years disease-free.”
“To my beloved Grandfather, Eleuterio, in heaven… grazie mille!”
This is proof that the generations before us have a lot to teach us! Processed junk food, GMO’s, and chemical additives haven’t always been part of the food supply. Unfortunately, the number of folks who grew up during this time is ever decreasing. Your grandfather was an incredible man!
Thanks to everyone who entered! Please continue to watch our Facebook page, we have more contests and giveaways coming soon!
