Guys thanks for the great conversation and the heads up about Codex. Its clear that the nutraceutical industry has grown and with that growth have shown some pretty decent profit margins. It was only a matter of time before the government got involved!!

As US citizens many of our choices have been taken away. Its too bad that our choice for healthy living is in danger of as well!!

You are welcome! May I suggest correcting the information in your blog that is incorrect? Much of what we hear and read about CODEX is not factual and possibly this can foster an untrusting attitude in people which can lead to apathy.

We should all be VERY concerned about CODEX but it is everyone’s responsibility to make sure that the information that is given out is factual.

According to the link that you give about Codex in the Related Blogposts section, the article states: There is a rumour circulating that Codex will come into force on December 31st 2009. This rumour is incorrect. This date actually represents one of many implementation dates of the European Food Supplements Directive and is nothing directly to do with Codex.

The text for the Codex Guideline on Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements, which has been based closely on the EU Directive—sharing some of its text verbatim—was ratified in July 2005 but is unlikely to finalised until around 2012 or 2013.
