Frequently Asked Questions About Detoxadine
New! Questions & Answers About Iodine and Emergency "Iodine Loading"
-
Q) What is "Iodine Loading"?
A) "Iodine Loading" refers to the process of saturating the thyroid gland and other tissues of the body with iodine in an emergency situation (such as in Japan at the moment) in order to block or reduce the uptake and utilization of radioactive iodine isotopes.
-
Q) What is the non-emergency (not in the Japan area) "Iodine Loading" Detoxadine® dosage?
A) For use in the USA and areas not in close proximity to Japan, the non-emergency "Iodine Loading" suggested dosage is 3 drops of Detoxadine® 2 times a day.
-
Q) What is the emergency (Japan area) "Iodine Loading" Detoxadine® dosage for adults?
A) 2 to 3 drops of Detoxadine® 3 to 4 times a day for two to three weeks followed thereafter by 3 to 4 drops 2 times a day. This is to be used when you think you may be exposed to high levels of radioactive iodine. You should not stay on this "Iodine Loading" dose for longer than 2 months unless radio-isotopes are still present or instructed by your health care practitioner.
-
Q) What is the emergency (Japan area) "Iodine Loading" Detoxadine® dosage for children 6 to 12 years old?
A) 2 to 3 drops of Detoxadine® 3 times a day for two to three weeks followed thereafter by 3 drops 2 times a day.
-
Q) What is the emergency (Japan area) "Iodine Loading" Detoxadine dosage for children 2 to 5 years old?
A) 1 to 2 drops of Detoxadine® 3 times a day for two to three weeks followed thereafter by 2 drops 2 times a day.
-
Q) What is the emergency (Japan area) "Iodine Loading" Detoxadine® dosage for children under 2 years of age?
A) Dosage of Detoxadine® for children under 2 years of age should be as directed by a qualified physician.
-
Q) What is the emergency (Japan area) "Iodine Loading" Detoxadine dosage for pregnant and/or nursing mothers?
A) Dosage of Detoxadine® for pregnant and/or nursing mothers should be as directed by a qualified physician.
-
Q) What is the emergency (Japan area) "Iodine Loading" Detoxadine dosage for nursing children?
A) Dosage of Detoxadine® for nursing children should be as directed by a qualified physician.

Q) How much iodine is too much iodine?
A) The answer is on one hand different for a KI (potassium iodide) versus a nascent (or what I call a 'clean') iodine and on the other hand somewhat similar. Regarding a day-to-day supplemental use, 3 drops a day (or less) is in line with other iodine products in the marketplace. As for noting when too much Iodine has been taken, that varies from person to person. Many can take even more over a two week period, while others are not able to exceed the recommended daily dose.
Acute iodine toxicity is very rare and may only occur when many grams (not micrograms) have been ingested. Acute iodine toxicity symptoms may include burning of the mouth, throat, and stomach, vomiting, increased heart rate, nausea, intermittent ringing in the ears, diarrhea, weak pulse, a sort of shakiness appears, or a uncharacteristic feeling of threshold panic ensues, or there is a profound disruption of sleep patterns (as opposed to better sleep patterns that typically happen as one's tissue iodine levels increase). These are some of the more noteworthy and obvious indications that iodine saturation is taking place.
Diets of natural foods usually do not supply more than 2,000 mcg of iodine/day. I personally believe that the average American diet provides less than 500mcg or less of iodine per day. In the coastal regions of Japan and other Asian countries, people's diets contain large amounts of sea vegetables and seaweed. These people have been found to have iodine levels of 50,000 to 80,000 mcg (50-80 mg) of iodine a day. So as you can see, Iodine toxicity is very rare.
Interestingly, many published physicians who specialize in thyroid endocronology are adamant that the established RDA for iodine is too low for meeting the body's need to deal with ubiquitous goitrogens in foods, water, air as well as ever increasing background radiation levels. This does not even address radiation spillage/blooms into the environment, as is currently happening in Japan. So the recommended daily dose we've come up with appears to be an adequately safe level for the general population. What each individual needs to be aware of is the 'indications' for exceeding their own tissue iodine saturation levels, based on the symptoms I've stated in the paragraph above.

Q) Is Detoxadine® an 'iodide,' such as KI (Potassium Iodide)?
A) No, Detoxadine® is not an iodide (or iodate). Iodides are iodine bound to another mineral, such as potassium. Iodides are harder for the body to uptake and for the tissues to utilize. Detoxadine® is a special non-toxic transformed mono-element nascent atomic iodine product. In other words, the only mineral Detoxadine® contains is iodine! This means easier uptake and tissue utilization of Detoxadine's unique transformed iodine element.
-
Q) Will Detoxadine® protect the thyroid the same as potassium iodide?
A) Yes, and beyond iodine loading protocols, Detoxadine® is a gentler form of iodine on the body's systems allowing for easier long term supplemental use.
-
Q) How is the nascent atomic iodine in Detoxadine® different from other products that contain nascent iodine?
A) The nascent atomic iodine in Detoxadine® is a 'true' nascent iodine due to the unique manufacturing process Detoxadine's iodine is subjected to. The iodine used in the process is not subjected to 'direct' heat, harsh chemicals or alcohol at any time. The transformative process further imparts remarkable stability to the finished mono-elemental nascent atomic iodine resulting in a very stable and low-to-no toxic product. To our knowledge, no other nascent iodine product possesses the stability, low-to-no toxicity and intrinsic qualities of Detoxadine's nascent atomic iodine.
-
Q) Is Detoxadine® a Standardized iodine product and what quality standards does it comply to?
A) Yes, Detoxadine® is a Standardized iodine product whose iodine content meets or exceeds licensing and regulatory standards. Further, all Detoxadine® ingredients are USP grade, and Detoxadine® meets cGMP standards, is Lab-Grade manufactured, is Kosher (Kashrus) certified, and Vegan and Halal compliant.
DISCLAIMER: Regardless of the above recommendations, it is strongly recommended that anyone considering an "Iodine Loading" protocol first consult with a qualified physician before doing so. This especially applies to those on medications or who have preexisting thyroid and/or cardiovascular problems. Those considering an "Iodine Loading" protocol do so on their own recognizance, therefore the manufacturer of Detoxadine® and any others affiliated therewith take no responsibility, either implied or actual, for doing so. The information and recommendations made herein have not been reviewed by and/or approved by the FDA.
