Yoga The Under Rated Remedy For Many Ailments

Postby kaisilver on Fri Apr 03, 2009 3:32 am

Many people consider yoga to be little more than a complicated collection of difficult excercises and yoga postures. Others think that yoga is something religious and holy. While ancient Indian yogis did combine yoga with religion and also practised some of the most complicated yoga postures, the truth is that yoga can help everyone. Yoga became known to the western world in the mid 1800's. It was quickly accepted and adapted to help people handle the stress and strain of modern lifestyles. There is no religious angle to the yoga practised in these nations, emphasis is given to Hatha Yoga which basically includes the physcial aspects of yoga.

To get the benefits of yoga, you will need to understand what yoga means in today's world. Yoga can be defined to be the focus point where body, mind and soul meet. There are many postures in yoga and a good yoga instructor can work out a specific set of yoga postures based on individual student requirements. For example, an athlete with streneous physical training will not be too interested in the physical excercises of yoga. But the breathing technics and yoga positions that help control breathing and mental condition will be very useful for the athlete. A CEO on the other hand would be confined to meeting rooms and aircraft seats for most of the year. He would obviously need some physical activity that yoga can readily provide. However the scope of yoga in improving the performance of this CEO would go behind physical conditioning. Breathing excercises and meditation available in yoga could also enhance the mental capabilities of this CEO.

Yoga training centers in many western countries have devised special yoga courses for pregnant ladies, the courses continue to offer yoga help for new mothers too. Like all other types of excercise, such yoga classes should be taken after getting advice from your family medical advisor. Pregnancy, birth and the subsequent chores of looking after the new born baby can take a tremendous toll physically and mentally on the mother. Yoga is believed to make a difference and help cope better with these challenges.
