Postby Dripple on Wed Nov 15, 2006 12:24 am

Hi, I’ve got a question….i need a protein supplement that’s not for body builders…….all iwant is to boost to carb ratio to help me lose weight and keep blood sugar low. I just bought aturemade ‘soy free protein booster’. Is it going to add fat if I don’t lift weights?

A protein supplement that does not contain a large amount of sugars or other carbohydrates is very unlikely to cause any type of weight gain; in fact, the opposite is more likely to be true. Body builders take many different types of protein supplements depending on their needs. The factor that that causes the dramatic increase in body mass is the strength training itself. The protein is simply a measure to insure that the body has a sufficient amount of amino acids to synthesize new muscle. The reality is that there is not a protein that can only be used for the purpose of bodybuilding; the main thing that you should be aware of is the formulation of the specific product that you are purchasing, the amount of calories, the amount of sugar, additives, and the source and quality of the protein itself. Organic hemp protein, rice protein, and some whey proteins such as Whey Healthier or Proserum (organically-sourced and low-heat processed) make good supplemental protein choices.
