Whey Question

Postby trader2 on Mon May 15, 2006 8:29 am

Hey,

My job requires that I walk upwards of 10 miles per day, and I do this at a fairly quick pace. I'm a 20 year old that has packed on some college weight but was fairly athletic a few years ago. I'm wanting to put on some more muscle and lose weight while I'm at work. I was wondering if drinking some Whey Protein before I go to work each morning would help me both add some muscle mass as well as lose some of my fat.

Thanks!!!

Whey protein can be a very nutritious drink provided that it is processed correctly and is of good quality from the source. You want a product that is produced from cows that are not fed antibiotics or growth hormone so that the residue does not enter into the finished product. It should also contain protein that has not been denatured by harsh manufacturing processes. Heat and acid can destroy the protein and other nutritional factors in whey. I would recommend a quality whey from a quality manufacturer that is free from artificial ingredients and flavors. This can add some easily digested protein to your diet.

Eating the protein can help to maintain and even build muscle mass provided that the correct stimulus is present. Don’t expect to bulk up simply from walking. It is excellent exercise but will not give you the bodybuilder physique that is advertised on many sports supplements if you are not weight lifting. I would also consider snacking on fresh, organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. These can provide you with many nutrients and ultimately help with weight loss, especially given your age and activity level. These types of foods are good for you and they can provide a consistent energy source for all of the walking. Many processed foods will break down too quickly and can cause problems with your blood sugar.
