What could be causing my rash?

Postby Linny on Sat Sep 10, 2005 1:30 pm

Hi. I am writing because of a rash that I have. I will try to tell you as much about it that I can.
It has been bothering me for between 3 and 4 weeks.
It is itchy, especially at night, but it doesn't interfere with my sleep.
It seemed to start out at first with a small dry patch of skin on the bottom right of my stomach, which I at first treated with lotion and an anti-itch cream. Then small pimple-like red bumps started appearing on my stomach, then my lower back, my chest (including breasts and under them), and now the insides of my upper and lower arms.
At first I omitted any body washes, just used plain soap, stopped using any perfumes, and used lotion sparingly. Also I began washing my clothes in an anti-allergy powder and changed my sheets.
Still, the rash didn't seem to be getting any better, so I went to the doctor after 2 weeks. He said that he thought it was an allergy or a virus that caused a rash, which should subside soon. He gave me a shot and prescribed some anti-itch pills for me to take.
After a week now, the medicine really hasn't had an effect, and it makes me drowsy and causes me headaches too.
It has just been in the past week that the itchy bumps have come up on my arms, too.
I have done some research of my own on the internet, and what I found that sounded most like my rash was scabies, but I can't see any burrows on/under my skin, and I don't have the rash on my hands, wrists, or between my fingers.

I am planning to go back to the doctor soon, but I thought that this website and the information you could tell me would also be helpful.
Thank you very much.
Linny

Hi Linny

Without seeing the rash it is difficult to say what might be causing it. Some possibilities are heat rash, eczema, contact dermatitus, food allergy, environmental allergy, scabies. etc.

Food allergy culprits to check are peanuts, flaxseed oil, strawberries, tomatoes, anything containing sulpha, corn, wheat.

I would suggest that you do a liver/gallbladder/digestive tract/parasite cleanse and then eat organically, fruits and vegetables for a few weeks. Take a look at your personal care products. If they are not all-natural then it means there are plenty of chemicals in them that could be the culprit. I would also suggest that you get a good shower filter.
