Hello All ~ I'm new to this site, and I'm wondering about using tea tree oil or colloidal silver for cradle cap. The child is 10 months old. It is a very mild case and doesn't seem to bother them, so this is probably just a curiosity question.

It is not unusual for an infant this age to experience cradle cap. In many cases, infant cradle cap will often resolve on its own by the time the infant is a year old or so. It may also be related to a B-vitamin deficiency (biotin especially), yeast overgrowth, lack of intestinal bacteria, or food allergies. Supplementation with a probiotic such as Bifidobacterium Infantis or others is generally considered safe for anyone of any age and may help. If the child is breast-feeding, the mother can often take supplemental B-vitamins and pass some to the child through the breast milk. Be aware that common food allergens such as milk, corn, wheat, citrus, peanuts, and eggs can also be transferred through lactation and may aggravate the problem. Some parents report benefits with tea tree oil; it is generally mixed with other oils such almond oil, jojoba oil, lavender oil, and others. I would not suggest supplementing with anything until speaking with the child’s physician, hopefully one that is at least familiar with and open to natural remedies.
