i want to get in shape...but theres a slight problem..

Postby andrei30o0 on Thu Sep 28, 2006 3:54 am

im 19 years old im about 5'5 - 5'6 and im about 165-167 last time i checked o ive been in shape before but after i had a heart attack i settled down a bit...i have a heart condition and i was operated when i was 3 and again when i was 12 so i cant really workout as hard as people normally can my doctor says that i should consider minor exercising and a diet for my health..because of my sudden weight gain its been harder to control my blood flow with my medication that i take because a lot of blood clots form in my body so it helps me not get a stroke..so im not just doing it to get be healthy but so i can live longer

is there any exercising that i can do to lose weight that wont put my heart at risk? and what do you think a good diet would be for an exercise like that

and are there any weight loss pills that i can take? i took some all natural ones a while back but i never really pushed myself when i exercised because i was always afraid with my heart condition so it slightley worked..

thanks for the help

Any exercise that you do will increase the work that is done by your heart. There are probably quite a few exercises that you can do that will be very healthy; however, your doctor has a much better idea, and you do too, of what you can or cannot tolerate. Some suggestions are walking, low-intensity bike riding, mini-trampoline, yoga, Pilates, and tai chi. There are many other activities that probably qualify as well; it sounds as if the intensity of the exercise is likely the main concern of your doctor.

Regarding the diet, I would suggest that the majority of your diet should be in the form of whole, organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and, if you like, meats. These types of foods are much more nutritious than processed foods and do not contain the pesticide/herbicide residue, hormones, trans-fats, and other toxic additives that most commercial foods contain. In addition, they typically have many more nutrients and enzymes, especially when eaten raw. Whole foods are a great idea for weight maintenance because they tend to be richer in fiber and lower in readily-digested sugar. They also tend to have fats that are much healthier, particularly in contrast to the trans-fats that are hidden in so many products. For weight loss, I would suggest eating less of the starchy and sweet fruits and vegetables and favoring the ones that have a lower-glycemic index. Depending on what your current diet is, just eliminating a lot of the “junk” foods may help with weight loss in itself.

Regarding the weigh loss aids, there are some that may be appropriate, although not any with a stimulating effect. Some that may be appropriate include l-carnitine fumarate, chromium polynicotinate, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), Citrimax (garcinia cambogia), and possibly even Hoodia or Slimaluma (caralluma fimbriata). There are a number of other supplements that could be beneficial, depending on the specific circumstances. Because of your situation, I would strongly recommend consulting with your doctor and, if possible, with a doctor that is experienced in natural medicine/supplementation regarding any supplements that you choose to take with your condition and medication.
