Hi Steve,
GHC is always happy to answer customer’s inquiries about our products.
GHC is not the only company that uses DE. I can think of at least one other herbal company that offers a parasite product that is only DE with no other ingredients.
Diatomaceous Earth, or DE, is the fossilized remains of diatoms, which are hard shelled creatures found in marine and fresh waters. The shells are sharp-edged and tear insects up from the inside out until they are completely desiccated and therefore die. Humans, and animals such as cattle and pets, are large enough that they are not susceptible to the same damage as what is inflicted on insects. DE has been reported in the scientific literature to absorb methyl mercury, E. coli, endotoxins, viruses, including poliovirus, organophosphate pesticide residues, drug residues, and protein, perhaps even the proteinaceous toxins produced by some intestinal infections. Diatomaceous Earth was originally used as construction material only, but after researching its properties, it is now being used in industrial filtration, toothpaste, women’s makeup, and as a way to de-tox the body, or cleanse the body of parasites. Diatomaceous Earth is a natural and safe way to kill parasites without chemicals. Our Diatomaceous Earth has been designated as food-grade and comes from fresh water sources. Also contains trace minerals.
Diatomaceous Earth is not harmful to humans or other large animals because they can not do enough damage in our mostly liquid bodies to harm us. It is 100% ecologically safe to the environment and non-poisonous to man and beast. In fact, if you've eaten anything made with flour (like Bisquick), you've eaten DE.
There are some features about food grade diatomaceous earth that correspond with its ability as both a digestive aid and a colon cleanser. The honeycomb skeletal form of diatomaceous earth is found, under microscopic evaluation to reveal a tendency to become filled and clogged with hard debris such as intestinal scale. Food grade diatomaceous earth has not been found to cause any insult to the mucousa or barrier wall.
Diatomaceous earth has a negative charge and bacteria has a positive charge, wherein it is believed by some that food grade diatomaceous earth sweeps bacteria out of the body by trapping it in it’s honeycomb shaped skeletal form. Unfortunately no product is able to distinguish good bacteria from bad bacteria. It is always good to supplement with a product that will continually provide good bacteria to the bowel area and we do recommend Lactero-Flora for this reason. Every DE deposit has a different shaped shell, this product was patented in 1962 and we do not have any signs of damage to the good probiotics due to adaptive change. We use the Perma-Guard brand. Clinically we have not observed any problems with using DE, in fact, Paratrex™ has proven, clinically, to work very effectively.
As to the reason of why other companies don’t use DE, that is something that we don’t know. Herbs can be very effective against parasites, but caution does have to be observed as some of the herbs can be toxic in the amount that is needed to effectively kill parasites. Many of them can also be very hard on the bowel itself especially when used for long periods of time.
Hopefully this has answered your questions and concerns about Paratrex™.
Have a great week, Steve.
