Oxy Powder with MS

Postby reawaken on Tue Sep 13, 2005 8:44 am

I have a client suffering with MS and is in a wheel chair, his diet is not very good as he has no appetite and he has very bad constipation. I have recommended Oxy Powder but my client is concerned that he may not be able to get to a commode in time.

However I have got him to start on 4 capsules which he has been taking now for 3 nights and has one bowel movement each day so far, today he told me that last night he took his 4 capsules but at 3am he had an accident in the bed, (first time ever) the last item he ate was grapefruit some hours before taking the capsules, and is now concerned if he should continue on 4 capsules or a lesser dose, or did the grapefruit contribute to his accident. He desperatly wants to resolve his constipation problem but needs to ensure he can get to his commode in time.

What would you suggest his best dosgae would be and for how long, and what maintenace should he continue with after 7 days.

If you can give me any advice for this man if would be of great help to him and if this works for his consipation and we can get the dosage right for his condition, then it will be a great success for many MS sufferers who continue to have a constipated condition, regardless of help from their GP's.

Hi

Everyone is different in their response time with Oxy-Powder. I would suggest the dosage which allows him to get to the bathroom on time is the dosage to stick with. Finding that dosage may take some trial and error.

You may want to try him on a daily dosage of 1-2 capsules 45 minutes to one hour before breakfast and lunch and then maybe one before bed. You will need to experiment as everyone's body is different.

Whichever dosage allows him to have 2-3 bowel movements each day should be used for maintenance.

Do not be afraid to experiment and be sure to listen to what he is experiencing. It could be that taking Oxy-Powder during the day will give him more control.
