Oil of Oregano - Safe for canines?

Postby janet on Fri Jun 02, 2006 12:48 pm

Just wondering if I can give my dog Oil of Oregano. He has been diagnosed with duodenal adenocarcinoma and i thought that while we see whether he has surgery or chemo, maybe the oil of oregano would reduce the inflammation rather than the Piroxicam that he is on. If you can think of something that would work better please let me know. But I have a cousin who was healed of pancreatitis by taking oil of oregano and I know it was a miracle to him...so hopefully we can use it too.

There are many people that have used oil of oregano with their dogs. The dosage can vary depending on the potency of the product and the size and tolerance of the animal. You could start very slowly with a product like Oregano Oil RX. This should be put in a capsule, a drop or two to start, and given at meal time. It is probably best if you can continue to work with your vet and let them know what you are trying so that they can help you monitor. I have not personally used oregano with my pets but have read accounts of others that have used it.

There are a couple of other products that may also provide some benefit. The first one is an enzyme product like Zymitol. Enzymes taken on an empty stomach are excellent for inflammation and for the immune system in general. If you prefer, I believe the Wobenzym also produces a product specifically for pets; although, it contains many more excipients than does Zymitol. Another product worth investigating is Oxygenator, www.ghchealth.com/oxygenator-herbal-antibiotic.php. This is a liquid that can be mixed in with the dog’s drinking water. It can positively affect inflammation and also boost the immune system. Aside from the supplement route, it is imperative that you feed your dog with a high-quality, preferably organic, food. Animals tend to respond very strongly and positively to acupuncture if you can find a practitioner in your area. Good luck!
