Mother with COPD

Hi,
My Mom was told she had COPD about a year ago, she is 66 years old and is still smoking. Our family knows she will never stop smoking but in the last 6 months it seems she is getting worse.
She is about 5'5 and weighs 107. Right now she has a frogy voice and fever with chills. I think her doctor is an idiot, but she likes him.
I guess I just wonder how long someone in her conditon can survive. She only gets up to go to the bathroom or get tea. She just got some oxegen but does not use it, the doctor says she dosen't really need it. She can sit up for 30 mins and walk about 20 feet and then is totaly winded.

Hi Christine

Since everyone's biochemistry is different it is difficult to say how long a person can go on this way. When a disease sets in such as this, many people decide to give up as they do not think that any lifestyle changes will help.

Check into products that help to provide oxygen to the body. Oxy-Powder is one that I would certainly recommend.

Of course smoking will continue to make the COPD worse. It would be to her benefit if she would lay them down. I would suggest talking to her about trying to get her body more healthy using a healthy diet and supplementation. Let her know that you would like to help, sometimes all a person needs is someone who is willing to be a "coach." Difficult job, but well worth it in helping a loved-one get better.
