maintenance and watery stools

Postby monmas on Thu Oct 05, 2006 12:47 pm

i have been taking OP for about eight months. a maintenance dose that seemed to work for me is two capsules before bed every night. i have two watery bm's the next day.

are bm's supposed to be more solid on a maintenance dose of OP? i have not had a solid BM since i started taking it eight months ago. when i skip a day of OP dose, i have no bm the next day, but then i take the two capsules after skipping a day and the bm's are still watery.

how do i get back to solid stools? or are they supposed to be watery when you are taking OP?

Many people continue to experience soft to liquid bowel movements even after performing maintenance for a long period of time. As a general rule, these movements do tend to become more solid over time; however, they can remain quite softer than an average bowel movement. The oxygen that is released from the Oxy-Powder continues to liquefy any compacted fecal matter that may be present.

It is generally recommended to take your maintenance dose every other day rather than every day. If your try this, you will likely find that your movements on the “off” days become much closer to normal. It sounds as if you may not be experiencing bowel movements regularly if you skip Oxy-Powder at night. From my experience, people that fall into this category generally had very infrequent movements before trying the product. I would suggest trying to take the maintenance dose every other night, you could even bump it up to three if you like, and then attempting to re-train the bowel. Some find that if they take time to visit the restroom 1-2 times a day, even if the urge has not manifested, that they can begin to sensitize themselves to the signal to eliminate. I would suggest trying this about 45 minutes to an hour after a good-sized meal; do not strain but simply try to reinforce the body’s natural function. Many feel that it is helpful to bring a low footstool or other object with them. Elevating your feet can more closely approximate a squatting position and may help.

It may be that you have sustained nerve damage through surgery or some other method and that this won’t be successful. I think that it is relatively easy and certainly merits the effort. You can also visit with a local chiropractor for a spinal adjustment. Back, especially coccyx, injuries can cause constipation.
