Hypothyroidism

Postby Rob Stanchi on Tue Aug 16, 2005 8:30 am

I have a friend in Huntsville, AL who has hypothyroidism.

Based upon blood tests and a Broda Barnes urine test taken during the past four years, it was determined that she doesn’t convert T4 to T3 well.

She has been on Synthroid (ineffective), Armour Thyroid, Wilson’s Protocol, and now Naturethyroid and selenium.

The Wilson’s Protocol worked rather well, but stopped working for some reason last April.

Any ideas on how to help her?

Hi

The Wilson's Protocol is a very good protocol. I would suggest that she get on the Wilson's website and get information on calling the doctor directly. He makes himself very available. He may can answer as to why it has stopped working.

Hypothyroidism is not easy to treat. Is she dealing with her diet, exercise and especially making sure that her hormones are in balance? These are the places that I would look first.

The following is an article that Dr. Group wrote about natural remedies for hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism – Natural Remedies
Author: Edward F. Group III, D.C., Ph.D, N.D.,CCN

In order to control or keep this condition from occurring, you need to keep a sustain attack everyday. This involves a diet that includes foods that enhance thyroid function, such as whole grains, raw seeds, prunes, apricots, potatoes, dates, apricots, egg yolks, molasses and parsley. Limit consumption of broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, mustard greens, peaches, pears, radishes, spinach and turnips because these foods suppress thyroid function. Avoid processed and refined foods, like white flour and sugar.

Drink only steam-distilled water. Commit to a moderate exercise program, like walking or yoga. Avoid fluoride and chlorine because these substances tend to block iodine receptors in the thyroid gland. Do not take sulfa drugs or antihistamines unless directed to do so by a doctor.

Beneficial Dietary Supplements

There are even supplements you can take that will help. These include:

· Kelp contains iodine, the basic substance of thyroid hormone.

· L-Tyrosine increases plasma levels and aids weight loss.

· Zinc stimulates the immune system.

· Spirulina has beneficial nutrients for overall health, with natural proteins, minerals, and herbs to help with weight loss.

· Vitamin B-Complex improves cellular oxygenation and energy, helps with digestion, immune and thyroid function.

· Essential Fatty Acids, such as primrose oil, are important for proper thyroid function.

· Bladderwrack may be beneficial for underactive thyroid conditions.

· Bayberry, Black Cohosh and Goldenseal can aid thyroid function.

· Herbal Bitters may help alleviate the symptoms of hypothyroidism.

· Coconut Oil may benefit Hypothyroid problems and assist with weight loss.

Other Recommended Supplementation

Oasis Serene - Natural progesterone cream that is chemical and excipient free. Use for women with low thyroid hormones and low progesterone levels.

Homeopathic Thyroidinum 3x or 6x - Take 3 pellets three times daily. Used to stimulate thyroid activity.

IntraMax - High-potency multivitamin/mineral complex. Take as directed on label.

Zymitol - Enzymes help to improve fauty digestion that is common in hypothyroidism. Take 15 minutes before meal for a disgestive aid. Take 1 to 2 hours after eating to reduce inflammation.

Geranium Essential Oil - Helps to regulate thyroid hormone. Use in a bath or add to carrier oil for a massage. Can also hep with fatigue and depression. Other Essential Oils to consider are: rose, bergamot jasmine and neroli.

If you take antihitamines or sulfa drugs, ask your doctor about possible alternatives. These drugs can keep your body from absorbing iodine.

Now, think about the body. You can also do things to the outside of your body to help. Let's start with body cleansing. Body cleansing is extremely important part of every prevention and curing program. Most people need more then this, especially when it comes to liver health. Body Cleansing is even important for children. Our internal organs can hold lots of toxins, and sometimes, it is impossible to get those toxins out, without doing cleansing. Our liver can contain hundreds of intrahepatic stones. Those stones will block bile flow, and affect the bases of your health, your digestion. Another problem is parasites. You must learn as much as possible about parasites. And, don't forget also dental toxins.

Let start with a cleansing program. You are supposed to do cleansing in this order:

Bowel cleanse with parasite cleanse

Dental cleanup (if you can afford it) - dental work may be one cofactor of your disease: amalgam, root canal, nickel crowns, cavitations (pocket inside jaw bone left after extraction of the wisdom and molar teeth)

Kidney and liver cleanse.

Drinking water

Drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces, daily. Example 180 lb = 90 oz. of water daily. Divide that into 8 or 10 oz. glasses and that's how many glasses you will need to drink, daily. Use 1/4 tsp. of organic apple cider vinegar for every quart of water you drink. Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks. These are diuretics and will dehydrate you. Every 6 oz. of caffeine or alcohol requires an additional 10 to 12 oz. of water to re-hydrate you.

Physical Activity

Physical activity helps cleansing; it brings balance and relieves stress.
Psycho-physical activities will help you balance your body and will help you relief accumulated stress. You will have to find a form of exercise that suits you. I will just give you a few examples:

1. Mini Trampoline jumping - rebounding!

2. Meditation

3. Walk or jog in nature. This includes a forest, mountain, river, sea, lake, beach, etc

4. Go fishing, photo-safari, rowing, riding, golf

5. Tai Chi, Chi Gong, Meditation

6. Yoga - Hatha, Meditation, Chinese Yoga

7. Martial Arts: Karate, Judo, Kung Fu, Teakwood, Budokai, Uechi, Aikido

8. Dancing, Aerobics, Gymnastics, Stretching

9. Swimming in non-chlorinated water.

10. Weight lifting – don’t exhaust yourself.

Also follow these tips when exercising or about to exercise:

· Do not exercise with full stomach - you may take a walk

· Do not hurt yourself

Sweating

Sweating is powerful way to cleanse your body from accumulated toxins.

Examples:

· exercise with a lot of clothes

· sauna

· drink warm tea in a hot room

· eat CAYENNE pepper

It is known that some modern industrial toxins and pesticides can leave your body only through sweat glands.

Psychotherapy and Spiritual Therapy

The human body is not just what we can see. There is more to it. To treat other levels of the body, you need to treat the soul and mind and the unconscious parts.

The best way to deal with this condition is to join a group who have or had the same condition. That’s the best source of therapy you can get.

This condition can be dealt with and cured as long as you take the precautions necessary and follow the guidance contained herein.
