high cholesterol

My cholesterol is 235. I'm using NutriSystem, lost 45 pounds, work out at Curves 4-5 times a week, I was shocked at this number. My Dr wants me to take Mevacor but the side effects sound awful. Is there a safer, natural alternative to bring down that number.

Help!

Postby Rebecca on Sat Mar 12, 2005 12:37 pm

Dear Doctors, I posted this on the colon cleansing board. Thought I'd post it here, too, because I'm desperate! Thanks for your time! :)

Hello all,
I'm hoping that someone out there will be able to answer some questions regarding Oxy-Powder for me.
I started Oxy-Powder about a month ago after having tried Colon Blow which I didn't like because I couldn't stand the texture of the drink, so I didn't follow the directions to a "t". I decided to try Oxy-Powder and found it to work quite well. I was taking 7-10 pills a night and I was having frequent watery stools, almost like diarrhea (sp?) several times a day. It would gush out, much like water, and it was greenish and then light brown and had, as others have mentioned, a stench very unusual for me! The stools were soft and mushy, often in small pieces and often times the water was so muddy looking I couldn't see them at all. There were often "flakes" floating around in the toilet, too. After doing this for a few weeks, I became concerned that the consistency of my stools wasn't changing and if I skipped a dose of Oxy-Powder I would bind right up and feel bloated and basically constipated. If I went back on, I would end up with the what I just described, watery and whatnot. I started getting concerned that it wasn't supposed to be watery and gaseous for so long, so I'd go off again and end up constipated again.
Am I missing something? Am I supposed to stick to a dose of, say, 7-10 pills a night and keep having those watery stools until they change on their own? Should I get a second bottle of Oxy-Powder and keep going?
Please note, that before I started these colon cleansings, I had NEVER had problems with being constipated at all, and actually had normal bowel movements 1X per day. I started Colon Blow and Oxy-Powder because I thought it might help with my depression, tiredness, and sleep, and it would clean me out, which I liked the idea of.
Now I feel addicted to Oxy-Powder in order to keep my system functioning! Yet, when it "functions", it is nothing like what I usually do in terms of BMs. Yikes! Should I keep going and if I do, will I eventually see a change for the better in my stools while on Oxy-Powder? Will I ever be normal again?!?
Any info at all that anyone has, any suggestions, explanations, etc are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

Grayson gave a very good answer at the colon cleanse forum.

We recommend that you do a 7-10 day initial cleanse and then go on the maintenace program for several weeks before doing another cleanse. I believe that you state you were doing 7-10 pills a night for at least a few (3?) weeks.

I would suggest that you go to an every-other-night schedule of 4-6 capsules (experiement with this to see what works best for you). The result that we would like to see is at least two bowel movements every day that are formed. Try to be patient and if you feel you need Oxy-Powder on the "resting" days then take 2-3 capsules.

Drink lots of water and make sure that you diet (fiber) is good and that you are exercising.

Let me know how it goes.

Take Care & Be Well,
