excretory organs

is the colon considered one of the excretory organs? Internet is saying that there is 4 .... Lungs, Kidneys, Skin, Liver.

How is the liver an excretory organ? I didnt think it excretes, I thought it sent toxins to the excretory organs?

Would I be right in saying the body excretes alot of toxins and acids via the colon?

There is actually no general consensus between different online sources in this regard; some of these do list the large intestine as an excretory organ as well. The confusion, I believe, has to do with the common and technical definitions of excretion. According to a biology textbook, “Excretion applies to metabolic waste products that cross a plasma membrane.” As you can see, this is probably a little different from the definition that most people would use. The liver is an excretory organ in that it filters waste by using a membrane.

You are correct in thinking that the liver does send toxins and other metabolic by-products to the colon for final elimination. It is correct to say that the body eliminates toxins and acids via the colon. It is also correct to say that they are eliminated through the skin, urine, and even through the lungs (carbon dioxide).
