Ear Infections in children

Hi,
Firstly i would just like to thank those who repsonded to previous enquirys about child tonsilitis and child diahorea. It's a blessing to have this service and your most valuable help.
I have been reading up on ear infections as my son seems to have developed his first ear infection. He is just over 2 and a half years old. He has a chesty cough, a runny nose, his throat does not seem to be inflamed at all, he has not been off his food, and last night cried and held his ear saying that it was sore. Today he seems to be his normal cheery self but when i ask him if he has a sore ear without fail he always points to the same ear and says its a bit sore and he doesn't really like me touching them. I have checked his ears and throat, no swelling or wax build up seems to be there
These are remedies after reading my natural theraies books, i am willing to try. I would like to hear if i am going along the right track, or if there is more i can do.
Drip some garlic oil on a cotton ball and place it in his ear (for as long as he will allow being 2), organic echinacea tea to drink (luckily he's good with the teas), more vitam c in his diet ie; increasing oranges and apples, have a few bowls of steaming water with a few drops of eucalyptus oil and a few bowls with a few drops of lavender oil (placed out of danger of course), salt or hot (not too hot) packs to place under the lining of his pillow for night time.
