Has anyone used colloidal silver for viral infections?

Colloidal silver has often been used for viral infections. Although the exact mechanism of action is not known, or whether there is only one, there are a number of theories as to why silver is beneficial in this case. Following are some proposed ideas:

1. Silver causes the virus DNA or RNA to revert back to being undifferentiated, and without the proper expression for that host is disabled.
2. Silver particles are an oxidizing catalyst and oxidize the virus killing it.
3. Silver repairs the broken (segment of) DNA of a virus, making it complete, but no longer a functional virus which by design has an incomplete DNA.

you also might consider the toxic factor when utilizing silver. If I am not mistaken there are also allergic considerations to consider and some people's bad reacton to metals in their body.

Since the dawn of time, silver has been used to help fight germs, bacteria, and other unfriendly microorganisms. For thousands of years silver has been used in silverware, silver cups, and silver serving trays and in medicine. Early American settlers even put silver coins in milk to help keep it fresh without refrigeration! American physicians in the 1930's relied on silver as an antibiotic treatment. Today silver is used in bandages and in salves for burns, and to protect against infections. It is even used in a nitrate form, and put into newborn eyes to help prevent infections.
To prove how silver had powerful germ inhibiting capabilities, Alfred B. Searle (the founder of the pharmaceutical company) conducted a test in the 1930's to prove the point. In his book "The Use of Colloids in Health and Disease" he preformed a test using two plates filled with gelatin. Liquid silver was placed in one plate for about five minutes with the gelatin. The other plate did not contain liquid silver. Both plates were then left at a constant 68 degrees for 48 hours. The plate that was not coated with silver had about 350 colonies of microbes, and the plate that was covered with silver had very few!
The point to discussing the history and prevalence of silver use is simply to say that it is typically tolerated very well, especially in the parts-per-million dose that is found in moist colloidal or supplemental silvers. Remember that silver is a trace element and people are often exposed through contact and food sources without a negative reaction.
