The Benefits of Enemas

Enemas have been around for a very long time, the world over. They present the oldest known relief for constipation, and for colon cleansing. This is an effective method for removing waste trapped in the lowest part of the colon. It doesn’t clean the entire colon, though.

It's a very simple process in which an enema is inserted into the anus. Fluid is injected from an attached bag, into the anus. It's often only water that is injected, but there are other liquids which are popular to add including: herbal blends, coffee, oils, and diluted clay.

Also used are "dry enemas" to clear the bowel. This process works like suppositories only faster. The person has a sterile lubricant injected into the rectum using a non-hypodermic syringe. People prefer this process because unlike the "wet enemas," this enema is not as messy.

For occasional treatment of constipation, enemas are useful. Some of an enema's success is determined by the liquid used. They are not so popular because there are alternatives to do the same job and more thoroughly. Some things to consider when deciding whether to use an enema

• It cleans only the lower colon
• Makes some people uneasy since they have to insert something into their anus
• If done incorrectly, serious damage can be done to delicate tissue
